Had to go here to know about there...

Certainly seems so.

In addition to being without my bike and own computer, I'm without my ipod which means that I am truly without.  Actually, it's not that it's not on my person, I no longer have an ipod, which reminds me of something that I saw (online) when the ipod nano's first came out.  Some smarty pants (online, there are several) decided he'd go to great lengths to prove that even under extreme distress, the nano would still continue to work.  Drive over it, hit it with hammer, throw it out a window, on and on and on.  Well, this scientific experiment was without one test - the test:  Nano no-worky when covered for days on end with peanut-butter, followed by Nutella.

Most of the music I like no one else likes - or so it seems since some of the bands I like faded (like the Havok Bashguard) from the shelves of local record stores.  One such band, much to my surprise, has recently become increasingly popular, all while actually being a band for onlly a short time, way back in the early 1990.

Actually, recent popularity isn't quite the way to say it, but I'm just a bit surprised at the recent appeal of one Josh Homme.  If you're on the up and up, well, he's the lead singer/guitarist of Queens of the Stone Age.  I guess, if you're me and that other guy from Maryland, you remember the band Kyuss.  This past week Them Crocked Vultures played in Ottawa.  Sorry, TCV is the lead singer to Queens of the Stone Age, some dude named John Paul Jones from some far off band no one's ever heard of named Led Zepplin, and a shitty drummer (seriously, dudes sucks) named Dave Grohl.  (Side note/piece of history:  Dave Grohl would've, should've been in Kyuss had the record company that signed Kyuss gotten their shit together; instead he made the decision to sign with a far less talented band - one that was much easier to copy/find in among the streets of Seattle.

What was very curious to me is that for the first time John Homme was celebrated for his accomplishments not solely in QOTSA, but also for KyussHomme was very much the creative genus behind Kyuss, though he surrounded himself with band mates who've gone on to be amazing on their own - Scott Reeder certainly comes to mind (if you've seen the Metallica docu-faisco, you might remember Reeder, along with Peeper Keenan, "trying out" for the bass-player spot - actually, I think Reeder was playing one-handed given the super basic, lame drum lines offered by Lars, but that's a different story), and the former lead singer Jon Garcia.  After Kyuss, Jon Garcia became a hired hand for any band interested in having a lead singer "sing" who could actually, you know, sing.

To bring this to the present, Kyuss's ex-lead singer, Jon Garcia has decided about 2 weeks ago to form a quasi-Kyuss and go out on the road playing nothing but Kyuss songs.  As of yet, this project will only show itself in Europe, but holy hanna... I would give back EVERY concert/show/sindig ticket I've purchased for the chance to see this; especially since Garcia mentioned that he may have some "special guests..." (Homme, Reeder, Brant Bjork...?)  Yes, even forgoing the chance to see Quiet Riot.
