The weather this morning was much what I’ve come to expect of Texas – rain, followed by a shit ton of sun. A little chilly at first, but really nice.
A huge, HUGE thank you to Nick and Kiisa, and Tom at Empirebmx. The package I was expecting arrived safely/soundly.
This is definitely a very neat town – which might sound cheesy; in all serioulsy, no surprise that Empire and T-1, and soon eough Sundaybikes, would choose such a locale. The town itself is very accommodating to cyclist.
I some howbumped into Mark Stine, of Biketexas this morning, when I was trying my best to get myself totally lost. Mark and his originazation are working overtime to ensure that cyclists of all sorts have a run of Austin, and the state of Texas just like the average automobile driver. He’s working on creating a route(s) that will encompass the entire state – even going to far as to go out on his own to see what roads are best – some 2000+ miles around the state. When the next newsletter drops, I’ll include a link to it so those of you in Atlanta can get an idea of the amount of work he and Biketexas Coalition have put in. Thanks, Mark, again for the directions around town, and for calling Empirebmx directly to comfirm the address.
Big thank you as a well to EMT Bill from the RV park in Bastrop. With the rain the last few days, and with having to wait for my package to be recieved, I was sort of stuck in Bastrop, which could be worst. Bill was good enough to share with me some of his time – great conversation about everything and and anything – and thank you Bill, as well, for the Texas state map and the map of El Paso. I was also made more than comfortable by teh good graces of Barb and Wendy who run and manage the park respectively – cold day + hot chocolate is a nice touch.
As I mentioned before, I’m sticking out Austin for just one day – then moving on. The weather may turn to rain again, but no harm I guess…
cheers,
j
