in a way I have had to readjust my intentions for the trip north. Everything since arriving San Diego has been bike-lane this, or that, complete with the Pacific Ocean to my immediate left – at times, just a few feet away. While it’s a far cry from riding 300 miles between bike-shops or the run throuhg Hill Country Texas, or even the never ending sand dunes of Eastern California, it’s been good.
I’ve been in contact with several cyclist along the way, most of whom are making the trek down the coast, south. And, as such, I have heard my share of rumors as to how bad it will be going north – shitty weather, wind, etc, etc. Fortunately, though I was able to have a chat with someone that lightened my spirits considerably by explaining that all of Northern, CA and parts of OR will be relatively empty which will make it that much more ideal…
Needless to say, Southern CA is far from empty these days – so a run back into seclusion will likely do me some good. And, since I guess I set out on this trip with the expectation that it would be an “adventure” rather than a bike ride, so rain, snow, wind and the like are to be expected.
The computer that I am using is having trouble with my google-maps plugin, so suffice it to say that I am in Ventura – Port Hueneme to be exact.
Everyone needs to have an extra piece of something during Thanksgiving for me, since I just realized a few days ago that the holiday is, um, on Thursday….
Cheers,
j
