a real blog, with the multiple posting in one day. Well, when you stop at an RV park with a complementary computer, you have to indulge.
I mentioned about seeing the local barrister. While I was nursing a scolding cup of coffee at the local gas-station, Faber McMullen gave me an invite to see his office, which stands as one of the oldest buildings in Navasota. He’s currently turning into an office/loft space but the building is really beautiful. He gave me a local history of the square block on which his office sits, plus the leading question about the town. Seems the name “Navasota” can’t be placed – obviously of Native American origin, but no one’s sure exactly who/where/when/how/etc. Many thanks Faber for the tour – very much a personal episode of This Old House.
And, so much for the flatness of Texas. Before today, I was concerned that maybe I was getting soft with the flat roads, followed by more flat roads. Suffice it to say that my ego was slightly inflated (elevated?) after braving Alabama for all its hills. Well, just outisde of Navasota, the hills returned. I’ll eat these words before this trip comes to a close, but there’s something to be said for pedaling (sitting) and PEDALING (as in standing up, full tilt…). With only one speed, it makes it that much more of a ride.
The weather is has made the turn, and it is absolutely beautiful outside. Leaving Navasota I caught the end of the rain/wind storm (hurricane?). It went south, and left sun and blue skies. I’ve decided to stay an extra day here in La Grange (I’ll keep you posted Noel…) given the weather, the RV park (amazing – $10.00 a night…) and the history of the town. My plan is to try and track down someone in City Hall tomorrow who can give me a run of the place.
Since you brought it up Noel, I’ve become more and more concerned that I am slowly working on my legs and bringing on a case of “I’ve seen better chest at the head of beds…” – or bird chest. So, push ups in the morning and evening now…
Cheers,
j
